Light, sweet crude for June delivery settled up 98 cents, or 2%, at $50.33 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. U.S. crude has gained more than 2% only seven times in 2017. Brent crude, the global benchmark, gained $1.10, or 2.1%, to $53.61 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe. Friday’s gains were the ninth in 11 sessions, a sharp turnaround since falling to a five-month low early this month. That led U.S. oil to gains of 5.2% for the week, the biggest since the last week of March. And Brent rose 5.4%, its best week in six months.
