(5183.KU) said Tuesday net profit in the fourth quarter climbed 1.8% from a year earlier, beating forecasts, on increased sales. The chemical-processing arm of Petroliam Nasional Bhd., or Petronas–Malaysia’s national oil company–posted net profit of 1 billion ringgit ($258 million), compared with MYR987 million a year ago, according to a stock-exchange filing. The result beat the average estimate of MYR993.95 million in an Eikon poll. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose 16% to MYR1.7 billion. Increased tax expenditure and depreciation translated into a softer rise in net profit. Revenue climbed 20% to MYR4.74 billion from MYR3.95 billion largely thanks to rising prices and sales volume, but this was partly offset by a weakening dollar, the company said. ?
