Oman LNG readies to negotiate new contracts post-2025 Oman LNG is inviting buyers to start negotiations for contractual deliveries starting from 2025, a company official said Monday, as the country is faced with the expiry of more than eight million mt/year in long-term deals. Oman LNG seen selling more than 40 spot cargoes in 2018 The current contractual terms, largely based on destination-restricted, oil-linked contracts, are unlikely to be extended however, as LNG buyers increasingly prioritize flexibility and risk management over long-term supply security, Oman LNG’s CEO Harib al-Kitani said. “Buyers are now attracted to [suppliers] that can give them the lowest price, no more long-term relationships,” al-Kitani said at the Gas and LNG Middle East Summit being held in Oman October 29-30. Oman LNG has been moving away from long-term supply contracts, citing an increasingly fluid trading environment. The exporter will have sold more than 40 spot cargoes over the course of 2018, he said. More than 7 million mt/year in long-term contracts from Oman, mainly with Japanese and South Korean utilities, are due to expire by 2025, and another 1.5 million mt/year by 2026. The expiry of the contracts comes just as a second wave of new export projects and expansions are slated to come on stream by the mid-2020s from the US, Canada, Australia, Mozambique and Qatar, among others. Oman LNG’s concession period will end in 2025, but the company is on track to receive additional gas from UK-based BP’s Khazzan field by 2025, which will add an extra 25-30 years to the export plant, al-Kitani said. The facility comprises three liquefaction trains at Qalhat, two owned by Oman LNG and one owned by Qalhat LNG, totaling 10.4 million mt/year.? ?
