Lease Sale 252, which includes 78 million acres up for grabs, is scheduled for March 2019. The lease sale includes 14,696 unleased blocks located up to 231 miles offshore in the Gulf’s western, central and eastern planning areas in water depths from nine to more than 11,115 feet. This will be the fourth offshore sale under the 2017-2022 National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program (National OCS) – in which 10 regionwide lease sales are scheduled for the U.S. Gulf. Two Gulf lease sales will be held each year. The Gulf of Mexico OCS spans 160 million acres and is estimated to contain 48 billion barrels of undiscovered technically recoverable oil and 141 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered technically recoverable gas.
