As China has recently allowed private gas companies to source LNG from overseas, the country now stands to overtake South Korea as the 2nd-biggest LNG market, says Kerry-Anne Shanks at consultancy Wood Mackenzie. “Emerging LNG buyers are being attracted by more-generous LNG deals than have previous been on offer. This means Asia’s would-be LNG buyers can potentially secure LNG more cheaply than buying gas from market incumbents.” Japan is the world’s biggest LNG buyer.
