Chinese Oil Imports To Slow In 2017, Says Platts Poll
Chinese oil imports will continue to grow in 2017, but not as much as in 2016, according to delegates polled at the Platts Oil & Energy Forum. Hundreds of oil sector executives cast a vote in the poll and 45% voted for growth in imports of between 3%-7% this year with 40% opting for growth of 0%-3%. Only 12% of delegates voted for growth of 12% while a bearish 3% opted for a decline in imports in 2017. According to data from the International Energy Agency, Chinese oil imports rose by 8.8% in 2016 due to an uptick in demand from independent refiners as well as a large decline in domestic production.
