Chevron’s (CVX) Permian basin operations could be worth as much as $50 billion, company officials said during today’s analyst meeting in New York. CVX holds an estimated 2 million acres in the red-hot drilling area in Texas and New Mexico, and its production there could reach 700,000 barrels/day within a decade, according to the company. CVX also holds a significant advantage in the region compared to peers: It doesn’t have to pay royalties on about 85% of its land holdings there.
