An affiliate of Hilcorp Energy Co. agreed to pay $2.7 billion in cash for the assets in addition to a contingent payment of up to $300 million payable over six years. The Houston-based company said the assets were valued at $5.9 billion at the end of last year, and that 2016 production was 124,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day, the bulk of which was natural gas. The deal, expected to close in the third quarter of this year. Last month, the company struck a $13.3 billion deal to sell a large portion of its Canadian oil-sands assets.
