“The agreement needs to be extended as we will not reach the desired inventory level by end of June. Therefore we came to the conclusion that ending will probably be better by the end of first-quarter 2018,” Bloomberg quoted Saudi energy minister Khalid al-Falih as saying at The Belt and Road Forum in Beijing.
“Preliminary consultations show that everybody is committed” to the output agreement and no country is willing to quit, said Russian energy minister Alexander Novak. “I don’t see reasons for any country to quit.”
At 11:35 am Singapore time (0335 GMT), ICE July Brent crude futures climbed 85 cents/b (1.67%) from Friday’s settle to $51.69/b, while the NYMEX June light sweet crude contract was up 81 cents/b (1.69%) at $48.65/b. Both ministers have hinted recently that they saw the need to extend the output cut into 2018, but this was the first time that they assigned a definitive time frame to the deal.
