Investors are ignoring market fundamentals by focusing on increased US production, Kibsgaard says during the oil field service company’s earnings call today. Global oil inventories continue to fall amid cuts in production by OPEC, but the market is “spooked” because inventories aren’t falling as quickly as expected due to US production growth, he says. Kibsgaard adds that prices could fall even further in the short-term if US drillers continue to grow production, but warns that a lack of capital investment in exploration of new oil finds globally will leave the oil market short in the longer term.
