Of the 34 companies in the S&P 500’s energy sector, 25 have seen their consensus EPS forecasts fall for 2Q this month. As a result, instead of earnings projected to nearly rise five-fold, a mere quadrupling is now anticipated in the wake of oil’s price gains from early 2016’s bottom.
