In May, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and 10 other allies including Russia decided to extend output curbs of about 1.8 million barrels a day for nine months in order to end a persistent oil glut and revive flagging oil prices. However, following a meeting of a committe monitoring the effort Monday, the cartel said in a press release that “all options, including possible extension…beyond Q1 of 2018.” Inventories have been slow to decline despite the producers’ cut and are still a far cry from the group’s target of a five-year average while oil prices have yet to reach the $60 a barrel participants like Saudi Arabia want. ?
