Mexico’s Pemex produced a combined 20,643 mt of BTX in July, up 5,649 mt or 38% from June and up 6,443 mt or 45% year on year, latest data released by the state-owned company showed. This is the highest combined output of key aromatics benzene, toluene and mixed xylenes posted by the Mexican energy producer since the company restarted production in April at its Cangrejera petrochemical complex in the southern state of Veracruz after five months of inactivity.
Production levels have been increasing steadily since then, with July output at both a year-to-date high and posting the third highest year-on-year increase on record.
Toluene output totaled 10,362 mt in July, up 3,208 mt or 44.8% on month and up 5,385 mt or 108% on year, the data showed.
Mixed xylenes output totaled 6,706 mt, up 1,392 mt or 26% on month and down 975 mt or 13% on year.
The two comprise 20% of the Pemex’s total petrochemical production.
