The price rise came as wholesale gas prices remained high through much the quarter due to fears of a tight market ahead of the winter period. Shell’s European sales price was last as high in Q3 2015 when it averaged $7.90/Mcf. European gas prices slumped in 2016 and for most of 2017 due to an oversupplied market and relatively mild weather across Europe. But they recovered at the end of 2017 and through 2018 due to cold weather and a tight market. According to S&P Global Platts assessments, the average Dutch TTF day-ahead price in Q4 2018 was $8.28/MMBtu, and the equivalent UK NBP price was $8.39/MMBtu. ?
