TypeⅡgas hydrate first discovered in South China Sea

Learning from the Ministry of Land and Resources, the South China Sea gas hydrate resource exploration project undertaken by Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey Bureau of China Geological Survey Bureau recently has achieved breakthrough results. On the basis of the South China Sea gas hydrate exploration results, the project carries out the gas hydrate exploration work in Shenhu drilling area, and first discovers typeⅡgas hydrate.

The drilled depth of this discovery is 242.37 meters below the seabed. From the exploration results, gas hydrate saturation is the highest between the depth of 135 meters and 138 meters below the seabed. The on-site analysis of samples shows that in the exploration area typeⅠgas hydrate dominates, accompanied with typeⅡgas hydrate.
